Texas Tracks

Texas Tracks and Artifacts

Do Texas Fossils Indicate Coexistence of Men and Dinosaurs?

By Robert F. Helfinstine
×
Ever since Roland T. Bird, curator of the New York Museum of Natural History, visited the Paluxy River near Glen Rose, Texas back in 1928 and took out dinosaur tracks to ship back to his museum, the tracks of the Paluxy have been shrouded in mystery and controversy.  The dinosaur tracks were promptly put on display, but little known is the fact that he also took out some non-dinosaurian tracks that landed in the basement of the New York museum never to see the light of day.  Why? From the evolutionary viewpoint of the museum, these tracks looked too much like human footprints to be shown to the public.   Thus, the quest began to unravel and investigate the mystery tracks of the Paluxy.  Many, many people, some credentialed, some not, have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours digging in the limestone rocks for human tracks like those in the basement of the New York museum.  This writer joined the fray back in 1982 and vigorously pursued the perfect human track yearly and sometimes twice yearly ever since.  You will have to read this book to find out how successful his pursuit has been.

Mammoths

Mammoth Remains: What Do They Indicate?

The Evidence Doesn't Support Some Popularly-Held Ideas

By Robert F. Helfinstine
×
Past articles about mammoth remains generally focus only on the frozen mammoth remains found in Russia and Alaska. Some articles mention the wide distribution of remains found in North America and Europe. However, to truly understand the "mystery of the mammoths" as it has been called, all evidence must been considered. This book starts out summarizing the information we know about mammoths, and then dives in to investigate evidence that others have ignored. The result is a surprising conclusion about the history and mystery of the mighty beast we know of as the mammoth.

Joel Amos Isaiah

The Prophecies of Joel, Amos, and Isaiah

Prophecy Correlated with Catastrophic Events

By Robert F. Helfinstine
×
The writings of the prophets Joel, Amos, and Isaiah were accomplished in the 8th and 7th centuries before Christ, during a time when the divided nation of Israel was facing some difficult situations.  According to the Scripture, many of these difficulties were brought on by the idolatry and sinfulness of the Israelites themselves.  God judged them in a series of events which were far more extensive than a casual reading of the Scripture would imply - unless one has an understanding of the history related to that time period.  This paper has been prepared to show that a complete understanding and correlation of many of these prophetic writings is not possible without taking into account three well-documented catastrophic events which occurred as a direct result of God's pronounced judgments.  It is not the intent of this paper to try to prove these events, but to acknowledge that they did occur and to use them in tying together the related Scripture from these prophets.

After the Manner of Egypt

After the Manner of Egypt

The 10 Plagues of Egypt had Worldwide Effects

By Robert F. Helfinstine
×
This book provides a correlation of geological, archaeological and historical records with the Bible presented in a new perspective. Why a new perspective?  This implies that previous attempts at correlating these items have not provided satisfactory answers to all the factors involved, and from my own experience, this is correct. Most Bible teaching does not include correlation of historical information from other nations with the historical events of the Israelites, and so important information is not conveyed to the student.  Teachers should not be faulted for this because this type of information is not included in study material.  Also, events of judgment other than the flood are looked upon as local events, even though in some cases the Scripture states otherwise. The perspective which is the basis for this book is that a series of catastrophic events in the post-flood era have had significant impact on the geological features of the earth and on the history of man, and that correlate with the Scripture.  While the viewpoint of post-flood catastrophes is not necessarily new, it has not been closely related to the Scripture from a fundamental viewpoint, even though the Scripture has been used to support the general concept of multiple catastrophes.

The purpose in preparing this material is to provide information in a single volume on geological and archeological findings and relevant ancient history records, and show that there is a consistent correlation with events recorded in the Scripture.   It is also intended that this material will provide:
1. A basis for understanding much of the world topography which we have today and the recent changes which have produced it.
2. Information which will show that the idea of a stable solar system, the basic foundation for the theory of evolution, is not valid, and that an unstable solar system existed during most of the ages of early history.
3. Information to help show that basic sciences and the Scripture do agree.
4. Information to give new meaning and a new perspective to many Old Testament Scriptures, particularly in the Psalms and Prophets.
5. An understanding that the judgments of God which were “after the manner of Egypt” to be catastrophic worldwide events.

The information being presented is, in most cases, not new.  Some of it has been available in books, reports, and articles published over a long period of time, but not usually gathered in one place, and in many cases, not related to the Scripture.  Much of this information is not in textbooks as such, although references to certain portions of it are alluded to as myths, legends, and superstitions of "ignorant" or uneducated people with little or no attempt being made to identify the basic facts which produced the myths and legends. The whole educational system has been influenced by the ideas of millions of years of time and processes of evolution as the agents which have produced life on the earth and the geological features we know today.  And those who promote the idea of evolution and the development of man over millions of years of time do not wish to support ideas or information which is contrary to their views, and therefore, much of this information has been "covered up" by intentionally omitting it from textbooks.   By doing so, the proponents of evolution have made it easier for people to accept their ideas since there is little contrary information available in the educational process to convince then of other ideas.

Lightning and Static Charge

Lightning and Static Charge

Book 1 in a Self-Study Series on Electricity with Experiments
By Alan Helfinstine
×
"Lightning and Static Charge" is a Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) book. It answers the question "What Is Electricity" through a series of illustrations, stories, science, history, and experiments. This book is a great self-study course for homeschoolers, distance learners, and summer enrichment. It is intended for someone with basic algebra skills who can use a calculator (e.g. age 9 and up).
The book starts out with the basics - lightning and static charge (aka "static electricity"), and then delves into the structure of the atom, conductors, and insulators. Experiments at the end of each chapter insure the reader has mastered the material before moving on to the next topic.
The book is not only a science book as it also delves into the history of the science and the great scientists: Ben Franklin, Niels Bohr, Rutherford, Dalton, Newton, and others.
At the end of each chapter and each experiment is a short quiz, which further reinforces the material
After working through the book, the reader will not only have an understanding of lightning, static charge, the atom, conductors, and insulators, but will also have an appreciation for the historical timeline and how we got where we are today.

A New Model of the Atom Based on Classical Physics
By Russ McGlenn
Edited by Alan Helfinstine
×
This book describes the history, development, and science behind one of the biggest breakthroughs in this century: The Spinning Charged Ring Model of the Atom. The model is based entirely on classical physics, and therefore doesn't require Quantum Threory, hundreds of sub-atomic particles, imaginary forces, Heisenberg Uncertainty, or dark energy to explain its operation. Every part of the spinning-ring model has a cause-and-effect basis in the theories of electromagnetism developed from Maxwell's Equations. Electromagnetic force is the only force required to explain its construct and operation.
1. The new model explains gravity based on the electromagnetic force.
2. The new model defines light as a wave and rejects the duality principle that light is both a wave and a particle.
3. The new model puts physics back on a firm scientific basis instead of a philosophical basis.
4. The new model reduces the number of assumptions that must be made for atomic and nuclear modeling.
5. The new model is founded upon cause-and-effect classical science..

Jewish Customs

Jewish Customs and Traditions

For Understanding and Goodwill Among All Men
By Alan Helfinstine
×
This book sheds light on the customs, rituals, and traditions of the Jewish community in Israel and in communities around the world, where daily life is conducted according to adherence to Jewish law. A Jewish custom — known in Hebrew as a minhag — is a religious practice that, though sometimes very widely practiced, does not carry the force of Jewish law and is thus not considered mandatory by traditional Jews. This book cover an extremely wide range of activities such as the order or language of particular prayers, the practice of swinging a chicken over one's head prior to Yom Kippur, or the nearly universal practice of smashing a glass at the conclusion of a wedding ceremony. Many Jewish customs and traditions are explained in this book. The origin and the meaning behind each one is described in detail as the reader is led through an interesting expose into the customs and traditions of the Jewish people.

Mystery

Bobby Benton and the Case of the Rusty Padlock
Bobby and Don Benton have a surprising knack for uncovering mysteries. A rusty padlock on the boat house and other clues unravel an international mystery involving smuggling and danger.

"Let's head for the tent!" Don cried out as the cold rain fell on his back.
"Just one more." Bobby carried a large branch and placed it on top of the canoe.
Suddenly a light flashed across the path.
"Hide!" Don hissed as he dove behind a small spruce tree. Bobby was not quick enough. A large burly man ran up the path and was face to face with Bobby before he could move.
The man jumped. He was as surprised to see Bobby, as Bobby was to see him.
"What are you doing here, kid?" the man snarled.
Don watched the scene from behind the tree, praying as he watched.
"Uh ... who ... me?"
"Smart aleck kid. You come with me! You'll talk soon enough."
The man grabbed Bobby's arm and half dragged him in the direction of the cabin.

The Halliway Boys and the Mysterious Treasure Map
Three brothers, Don, Bill, and Rusty Halliway are used to being out on the water. They spend their summers helping out with their family business shuttling passengers, fisherman, and cargo on “ The Janice Kay” around Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota. The boys have an uncanny ability to get themselves wrapped up in one mystery after another. If a mysterious situation arises, the three boys somehow end up in the middle of it. While this does become trying for their parents, it does prevent life from becoming monotonous.

On a trip to the Florida Keys to help out an old friend, the three brothers find themselves in the middle of a big mystery surrounding an old treasure map. Is the map a hoax, or will it really lead to buried treasure? It soon becomes clear that they are not the only ones interested in that map.

"There's no need to look in there," his brother told him. "No one got in our room. It couldn't be done with us right here all the time."
Rusty unscrewed the lid and stared into the long cylinder.
"I—I don't see it," he said.
"Here!" Bill exclaimed. "Let me have it!"
He took the case and turned it upside down, shaking it vigorously.
The brothers stared at one another.
"Bill!" Rusty cried. "It—it's gone!"
"I don't see how it could be. We were right here! No one could have broken in and stolen that map without us hearing him!"
"But somebody did," Rusty replied numbly. "Somebody slipped in here and got that map!"
"We'd better go topside and find Don!" Bill said excitedly.
Their brother was on duty.
"Somebody got the map," Rusty whispered. "They slipped right into our cabin and got it while we were asleep."
"I was afraid of that," Don said. "You fellows wait here. I'm going to talk to Captain Tracy."

The boys have an uncanny ability to get themselves wrapped up in one adventure after another. If a situation arises, the three boys somehow end up in the middle of it. While this does become trying for their parents, it does prevent life from becoming monotonous.

In this adventure, the Halliway boys find themselves on a boat in Southern Florida helping out their friend Eddie Logan. The three brothers become entangled in a fierce competition for a fishing contract that becomes dangerous and sinister.

Eddie faced him. "I thought you were the man who didn't mind trouble," he said. "What's the matter, are you afraid of him?"
"Yes, I'm scared of him," he blurted. "I'm scared to death of that man! And you'd be scared too if you knew what I know about him!" His voice cracked with emotion. "I don't want to have anything to do with him or anything that he's interested in!"
Eddie waited. "Perhaps you'd better tell me what that means, Mick," he replied.
The diver was defiant. His lips curled contemptuously. "What would you suppose that it means?"
"I'd rather have you spell it out for me."
"I mean exactly what I said," Mick continued. "I'm not doing any diving for anyone when Kurt Wahl is around. Not unless I'm diving for him."
"But you can't leave us in the lurch this way," Don protested. "We've got to have a diver. We've been counting on you."
"Well, from now on you can count me out. I'm through. Finished."
"But what about that contract you signed?" Eddie asked. "Doesn't it mean anything at all? Are you going to walk out on me without any more warning than this?"

The Halliway Boys on the Secret Expedition
Three brothers, Don, Bill, and Rusty Halliway are used to being outdoors. They spend their summers helping out with their family business shuttling passengers, fisherman, and cargo on “The Janice Kay” around Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota. The boys have an uncanny ability to get themselves wrapped up in one adventure after another. If a situation arises, the three boys somehow end up in the middle of it. While this does become trying for their parents, it does prevent life from becoming monotonous.

In this adventure, the Halliway boys find themselves on a scientific expedition inside the Arctic Circle. But, wait – is the expedition really scientific? Or is something more sinister going on?

Don Halliway stared at him. "I don’t follow you at all, Slip. What’s this about?"
The Mountie took a deep breath. "We have reason to believe that this expedition you’re going on may not be all that it is supposed to be."
"Now wait a minute," Don countered. "Before I even talked with Dr. Bradshaw I did a little checking. He’s one of the leading ornithologists in the country. This is a legitimate scientific expedition. I’m convinced of it."
"I didn’t quite say what I intended to," the officer answered. "If the expedition was a fraud our problem would be simple. The government could deny them permission to go and that would be that. But it is legitimate and we have no real reason for keeping them out of there. At the same time, we have been informed that some person or persons may be planning to use the expedition as a cover for a serious piece of espionage."
Don Halliway’s face blanched.
"Espionage?" he echoed. "Are you sure?"
"That is the information we get. It isn’t the sort of proof that would stand up in court, but it has proved reliable in the past."
"But what would they have to spy on up there?" Don asked. "We’re going north of Baffin Island to a spot some 400 miles into the Arctic Circle. As I understand it, there are only a few Eskimos, a mounted police station, and a Hudson Bay Company store."
"And," Slip added, "one of the most important and secret radar installations our governments have."

Mr. Barstow was alone in the living room of the luxurious motel suite when Eddie and Don knocked on the door. The newspaper was on the coffee table, turned to the column they had read just a few minutes before.
"Don't tell me why you fellows are here," Mr. Barstow said amiably. "Let me guess." He picked up the newspaper and held it out. "You saw this, didn't you?"
Don nodded. "I've got to know what this is all about before we leave the States," he said firmly.
"And if you don't?"
"Then we don't go."
Frank Barstow studied him. "I could get someone else who wouldn't ask any questions," he said.
"I'm well aware of that."
Barstow sat down across from them, reluctantly. "I don't like the idea of going into this with anyone," he said, "but you don't leave me much choice."
He paused. "I can depend on you not to say anything to anyone about, this, can't I?" he asked. "Except of course, to my son and daughter and the rest of your party?"
"If it's legal and honest, we won't say anything to anyone about it."
"It's legal and it's honest," Mr. Barstow retorted. "If it weren't, I wouldn't have anything to do with it."
He folded the paper into a roll and tapped it against his palm. "Perhaps all this secrecy is foolishness," he said, "but we heard rumors of something when we were in Congo before. It has been keeping me awake nights ever since."
Don's eyes glowed with excitement.

Don Halliway seldom backed away from an invitation to adventure, but this time his decision hung in the balance. Should he agree to accompany two brothers who competed for fame and control? An expedition to the top of Forbidden Mountain required teamwork and cooperation and the Halliway boys soon became aware of the a dangerous situation they had gotten themselves into.

"Let me go," he snarled angrily. "Let me go! I've taken all the abuse I'm going to take from him! That's all he's done since we left Anchorage! Needling me and giving me a bad time! I'll teach him!"
"Let him go, Halliway!" Lee retorted, stuffing the letter in his pocket. "I've been wanting to get at him myself. The great Ross Ainsworth! What would your public think if they could see you now?" He laughed scornfully.
Ross struggled to free himself, but Don only tightened his grip on the mountain climber.
"Listen to reason, you two!" Don panted. The exertion at the high altitude caused them all to breathe heavily. "You can't be at each other's throats like a couple of grade school kids. What's the matter with you, anyway?"
When Lee saw that Don wasn't going to release Ross, he took the letter from his pocket and tore it open.
"Halliway!" the younger mountain climber cried under his breath. "Let me go! We can't let Lee read that letter!"
It was too late! Lee's face went white and his hands began to tremble. "Ross!" he said, his voice choking. "Ross! You lied to me!"

Felicia Cartright, a petite blonde who is one of the most popular students at the Wellington School for Girls, has a surprising inclination toward mysteries. If a mysterious situation arises it either makes its way to Felicia, or Felicia somehow finds it. Though this is a bit trying for her happy-go-lucky room-mate, Joan Bailey, it does prevent life from becoming monotonous.

In this episode, Felicia and Joan make a trip to Maine to track down a very valuable piece of antique furniture that had been willed to their school.

"Blow out that light, and come here."
She opened the window when Joan had blown out the lamp and, loosening the screen, she thrust her head out to look along the side of the darkened house.
"What do you see?" Joan asked.
"I thought I saw a light shining on the ground at the front of the house," Gretchen replied after a moment or two. "But I could have been mistaken."
They watched in silence for a minute or two.
"I can see it now," Joan said. "Look over there.
Even as they watched it went out again, leaving the house in darkness.
"Somebody's over in the front part of the house," Gretchen whispered tensely. "They've got a flashlight, and are going from room to room."
"That could only be Herman and Clarissa, Felicia observed. "Nobody else would dare to go into the house when they were in there sleeping."
"Why do you suppose they're going around like that?" Joan asked. "If they moved the sideboard the other night why would they still be hunting around in the house? Do you suppose we were mistaken about that affair the other night? Could that sideboard still be in the house?"
"That's one of the things that we'll have to find out," answered Felicia.

Felicia and Joan make a trip to France as a favor to Felicia's Uncle Don, and find themselves caught up on a dangerous mission. Just who can they trust, and who is telling the truth?

"Are you Mrs. Duvall?" the Cartright girl asked.
"My husband is not at home." She moved as though to close the door. "What do you want with Duvall?"
"One thing we'd like to know," Joan said crisply, "is what's going on here. First, we get hauled in by the police and questioned and searched. Now you're going to shut the door in our faces. Just what is this, anyway?"
The old woman's face darkened, and for a fleeting instant, fear flashed across it.
"The police?" she echoed, leaning forward and lowering her voice. "It is not the police who watch our humble little cottage."
The girls stiffened.
"Who was it that grabbed us then," Felicia demanded, "and hauled us down to the hotel?"
The old woman stared past them, first in one direction and then the other, as though straining to see something in the darkness. "The same ones who came and searched our place a fortnight ago," she told them.
"And who would that be?" Joan insisted.
"The Communists!" she whispered hoarsely. "They are everywhere!"

Felicia and Joan travel to the home of a classmate only to discover that their classmate's father is the subject of threats and accusations.  Felicia and Joan search for clues that will prove the man's innocence.  Or is he really innocent?  As they search for clues, the mystery becomes darker and more sinister.  Will they ever get to the bottom of what really happened?

They had breakfast and went out into the chill morning air to follow the tracks of the person who had stood beneath the cabin window the night before.
"He was in a hurry," Sylvia said, pointing to the long, sliding imprints of the snowshoes. "A big hurry. We must have frightened him."
"Then that makes us even," Joan put in. "He certainly frightened us."
They fastened on their skis and followed the trail in the soft snow. The fellow had indeed been in a hurry. He had gone stumbling and sliding over drifts, through trees, and around clumps of brush, until he reached the main road.
There he had taken off his snowshoes and gotten into a car.
"What do you know!" Joan exclaimed.
The girls examined the tracks and looked at one another in amazement.
"Now why would anyone drive over here in a car and sneak up to look in your cabin, Sylvia?" Felicia asked.
The other girl shook her head. "It would have to be something important for him to go to all that trouble."
"And secretive," the Cartright girl added. "He walked more than a mile on snowshoes through the forest when he could have driven directly to the cabin."
"The fact that he ran means that he didn't want to be seen," Joan added.
Felicia's face lighted. "We have our first clue!"

When Felicia lends money to a street beggar in exchange for his old violin, the girls are thrown headlong into an ever-deepening mystery. Now everyone seems to be after that old violin that appears to be almost worthless. What is the real story behind the old violin, and what secrets does it hold? Will they ever get to the bottom of this mystery?

She started forward. "Now excuse me, I'm going to join my friends."
"You're coming with me!" he snarled. His hand snaked out suddenly and tightened on her wrist.
For an instant Felicia almost cried out in pain. Then she remembered something they had been taught in one of the gym classes at Wellington. She grasped his wrist with her other hand and gave a sudden jerk. She caught him off balance and jerked him off his feet. He went sprawling into the heavy wood display case with such force that it staggered him.
"Joan!" Felicia screamed, dashing frantically down the aisle of the museum. "Mrs. Halverson!" Felicia's shrill cry went reverberating through the rooms of the museum.
She dashed around the comer, her heels clacking a wild staccato to her cries. The very suddenness of her scream seemed to freeze guards and visitors. Even Joan, Mrs. Halverson and Claudia stared as she came running to them.

When Felicia and Joan take summer jobs as counsellors at The Camp in the Pines, they discover a thief is working among them. But which girl is it? As they unravel clues, the mystery grows as almost every camper becomes a victim. How will they stop this thief? Will they ever discover her identity?

The girls were still asleep when she dressed and reached for her Bible to have her own personal devotions. Usually, she had put it away, but that night when the girls were finished looking at the bookmark, she had laid it on the little nightstand near her bed.
She held the Bible in her hand momentarily. The early morning sun was streaming through the window, flooding the big room with light. Everyone else was still asleep. In the room next to them even Joan, who was an early riser, had not yet stirred. Felicia could hear no sound, save that of their slow, regular breathing.
A prayer of thanksgiving for the girls who accepted Christ the night before went heavenward.
Then Felicia opened her Bible. For a long minute, she stared at it. Her bookmark!
It was gone!
